This patch applies to "Defender" © 1993 Acid.

Two versions are supported:
- Amiga Format release (issue 52)

REQUIREMENTS

- Original disk or compatible disk image
  (Cracks have not been tested and are not supported)
- Slave requires WHDLoad 16+
- Game requires 352k chip memory, plus 448k any memory
  (+ approx 250k other memory for preload option)
- An installed Kickstart 1.3 image.
  It must be named "kick34005.A500" and located in "Devs:Kickstarts/"
  The image can be extracted from an A500 using a tool such as GrabKick,
  available from Aminet: util/misc/GrabKick.lha
  You must also have the file "kick34005.A500.RTB" in the same directory,
  available from Aminet: util/boot/skick343.lha

FEATURES

- Game loads fully from HD
- Quit game at any time (default key F10), including on 68000 machines
- Press fire to start a 1-player game from title screen instead of using F1,
  or LMB to start 2-player game instead of using F2
- Audio glitches fixed (insufficent wait after DMA write)
- Removed exit/crash to desktop if mouse button pressed
- 2nd button triggers smartbombs (same as pressing Return)
- Player 1 control defaults to Joystick instead of Keyboard
- VBR access removed
- Combined Color/New/Rom Icon included
- Source code included

WORDS FROM THE AUTHOR

Some strange bugs with this game needed fixing - audio glitches due to an
incorrect wait time after writing DMA before changing audio registers, and
a bizarre exit (and sometimes crash) to desktop if the mouse button was
pressed during the game (possibly some leftover debug?).

I took the opportunity to support the 2nd button for triggering smart bombs,
and added some niceties for CD32 owners so you can press fire to start the
game instead of needing to use a keyboard (plus the controls actually
default to Joystick for player 1 now).

The Amiga Power release of the game uses better (I think) sound effects, so
that too is now supported.

This slave has been written as an exercise to convert a generic kick (which
tampered with the VBR) into a real install in order to show how a simple
install was done. It was finally not that easy.
